Victorian Bushfire Aftermath. 2009
173 people were killed by the firestorm that occurred on Saturday 7 February 2009, the hottest day in Melbourne’s history when temperatures soared to 46 degrees Celsius while shifting winds gusted upwards of 100km/h. In some cases the fire was believed to have raced as fast as 1km every minute – destroying everything in its path; houses, farms, vehicles, livestock and native forests.
The scenes depicted in this series include some of the areas most devastated – Kinglake, Flowerdale and Hazeldene.
