Iraq & First Commission for Foreign Policy
In what I hope will be a wonderful ongoing partnership, I was recently commissioned for my first assignment for Foreign Policy.
My first report came from the Iraqi side of its border with Syria where an extended Yazidi family had taken shelter in what was once a castle and later a military base and prison in Saddam Hussein’s era.
The family had come to Iraqi Kurdistan after being chased out of Sinjar by Islamic State Jihadists who had vowed to kill any Yazidi who failed to convert to Islam.
