Macleans Magazine in Afghanistan
For my first ever commission in Afghanistan, I had the great pleasure of photographing the author of a new book The Dogs Are Eating Them Now, the Canadian Graeme Smith.
Graeme’s spent more years than most foreign journalists in parts of Afghanistan that most avoid.
The book details a number of his experiences in such places – predominantly in the southern capital of Kandahar – and ties in aspects of politics and things on the periphery of the battles and figures on which his tales center.
The book itself was as horrifying as it was enlightening. A book that wasn’t always pleasant to read but given the topics being covered, nor should it have been.
My portrait of Smith at the top of one of the old forts that litter Kabul’s landscape appeared in Canada’s Macleans Magazine alongside an excerpt from the book.
