Jeff Carter on ABC’s Artscape
One of Australian greatest but least known documentary photographers, Jeff Carter, who died in late 2010 will be profiled on The ABC’s Artscape on August 16 at 10pm. Given that Carter listed – amongst others – John Steinbeck as a great influence it wouldn’t be inaccurate to see him as an antipodean Dorothea Lange or Walker Evans of sorts. Carter spent much of his life scouring rural Australia with a camera and typewriter, working along the way for the likes of Paris-Match and National Geographic. He published over a dozen books and his extensive archive of inland Australia is one of great national significance. To read more about the program CLICK HERE.
