PRE-PHOTOSHOP IMAGE MANIPULATION
As a fairly outspoken advocate of un-manipulated photography, this piece in The Atlantic Monthly caught my eye. It charts some (and can point you to many more) of the better known instances of image manipulation prior to the advent of Adobe Photoshop in 1987.
